The Barcelona Project - Hilde

THE HISTORY IN ENGLISH

The Barcelona Project includes Freddie Mercury's the "Barcelona Concert" - a result of the cooperation between Mercury and Montserrat Caballé, and several of Queen's immortal songs.

"I had this perfect dream..."

It all started 2007 when Marius Holth - a Norwegian tenor - got into contact with "Aquarius" - a newly founded Norwegian vocal ensemble of female amateurs. Marius was a highly appreciated interpreter of Jacques Brel, but who also worked with plans of performing Barcelona and Golden Boy on the upcoming annual "Oslo Opera Festival" that autumn. When the soprano was taken ill just a couple of days before the concert, Marius called upon Karin ten Cate - a Dutch soprano. Karin had previously performed in the "Barcelona Concert" on several stages in Europe and was already a highly acknowledged artist. She went immediately to Norway. It became soon evident that they all had shared the same love, affection and devotion for this music.
The concert was an immediate success with longstanding ovations in that chilly, dark Norwegian autumn night, but a flame of warmth had been ignited both in the hearts of the performers and the audience...

"Let the songs begin..."

This great experience led to months of hard work to fulfill a growing wish of staging the entire Barcelona Concert.
This took place on New-year's eve 2008.
The response was beyond any expectation. The outstanding soloists, the musicians and the vocal ensemble were met with a storm of applause.

"The show must go on"

A temporary climax and a mile-stone in the history of The Barcelona Project was reached when the group visited as guests, the annual "Queen" celebration in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in January 2009. Once again the entire "Barcelona Concert" was performed and highly appreciated by hundreds of dedicated "Queen" fans present.

"Carry on, carry on, don`t take it away from me...."

In December 2009 the show was again presented in Norway. By this time, the music had "infected" some of us to such an extent, that we somehow had to carry on....
Now we all work together towards a common aim: to perfect the Mercury and Queen repertoire. Our focus is now on Montreux in September 2010 where we hope to share some moments of joy and happiness when presenting this music to a devoted and compassionate audience of Mercury and Queen Music lovers.
